Project Overview
BT Scaffolding was contracted to provide full access solutions for essential refurbishment and window maintenance works at Montgomery House, a multi-storey residential block in London.
Scaffolding was required to reach both the side (30m) and rear (100m) elevations across several levels. The scaffold design had to balance safe working access with uninterrupted use of entrances and walkways by residents and pedestrians throughout the project.
Project Size and Execution
Because of restricted space along one side of the building, the scaffolding incorporated an overhang section to achieve complete coverage while keeping ground-level access open. Safety netting was installed across all elevations to protect residents and the public during the works.
The scaffold erection and dismantling were each completed within three days, using around five full lorry loads of equipment. Over the 12-week programme, BT Scaffolding carried out weekly inspections to support and maintain strict safety and performance standards.
Safety and Compliance
Because the building remained occupied throughout, the team worked closely with the client and residents to plan each stage safely. Walkways and entrances were kept open and our scaffold managers ensured that all scaffold elements remained compliant and secure throughout the project.
Challenges
The site offered very little space, especially along one side of the building, which made scaffold setup and deliveries difficult. The team had to plan work around resident movement and the constant use of nearby walkways and parking areas.
Deliveries and scaffold changes were planned around the site’s daily activities, with the team working closely with the main contractor to keep paths clear and ensure residents moved safely through the area.
The Results
Montgomery House tested the team’s ability to work safely in a tight space without disrupting residents. The scaffold gave reliable access for refurbishment and window cleaning while keeping the site safe and usable throughout the job.
The scaffold went up and came down on time, without a hitch, thanks to the team’s planning and coordination from start to finish.
